There are big changes to the EIC this year including more money for 3 children or more. Last year the max children which counted toward this refundable credit was 2.

Also, what child qualifies you for this has changed a bit. For 2010 the child must be younger than you and can’t have filed a joint return except to claim a refund. The child can’t have more than $3,100 in investment income so no trust fund babies!
Of course if your child has a trust fund you probably are way over the income limits to get this credit anyway. If you make over $48,000 you won’t be getting it. Over $43,000 and your single forget about it.
