I heard from one of the people I work with that our local library is doing free tax returns. That means they’ll prepare the whole return for you and not charge. This sounds like a good deal but do you really want a librarian doing your taxes?

If it’s fairly simple and you’re only going to need the 1040 EZ form then perhaps this would be a good way to go. But if you are getting things like the earned income credit or additional Child tax credit then I recommend going to a paid tax prep service because the IRS does look at and audit those types of returns much more closely than just regular returns.

Here’s some information on the Pennsylvania free tax prep and it can probably give you a head start in looking for some potential free tax return help in your own local area.

Leave your comments for your local area and whether they have free tax preparation at a local library near you.
